4.3 Download / Upload from / to GARMIN

Kashmir supports direct  download and upload form / to GARMIN's GPS receiver.
Only GARMIN products are supported.

(1) Download

Follow the next steps for downloading data from a GARMIN's receiver.
 

(a) Connect RS-232C interface

Connect the GARMIN's receiver to you PC with a RS-232C cable which is option.

(b) Setup GARMIN

Select GRMN/GRMN communication mode of the GARMIN's receiver.
Normally this setup is found as INTERFACE in the menu.
Select GRMN/GRMN and check the HOST display.

(c) Preparing the Kashmir

Open the Kashmir.
It is recommended to open a new GPS data base (GDB file) Select [File] -  [New] - [GPS] and create a new GDB file.

(d) Download

Select [GPS] - [Download from GPS] and one of [All],  [Waypoint Data], [Route Data], and [Track Data].
A dialog for communication setting will come up. Please select the COM port and select [Start] for downloading.
You can download from the communication menu of the GPS Editor.
 

(Option)
[Using altitude from GPS] option enables downloading the recorded altitude data of the GPS. Without checking this option, altitude data are used from the elevation model of the terrain.
This option is only valid for models, such as eTrex or eMap,  which are capable to record altitude.
(e) Upload / Download List

The downloaded data are registered in Upload / Download List.
Deleting and editing the items needed are possible before registering into Kashmir GPS data base.
Select [To Kashmir] for registering into Kashmir Database.

It is also possible to upload/download from this dialog.
 

(2) Upload

To upload data to GARMIN's receiver please follow the next steps.
There are some restrictions to be considered. Names of waypoint and route allowed only numbers and alphabetic. Special characters like + or * and language dependent one are not allowed to use.
Please note that the way points with the identical names are overwritten.

(a) Connect RS-232C interface

Connect the GARMIN's receiver to you PC with a RS-232C cable which is option.

(b) Setup GARMIN

Select GRMN/GRMN communication mode of the GARMIN's receiver.
Normally this setup is found as INTERFACE in the menu.
Select GRMN/GRMN and check the HOST display.

(c) Preparing the Kashmir

Open the Kashmir.
Open or create a GDB file containing the data to be uploaded.

(d) Upload

Select [Edit] - [Edit GPS] and launch the GPS editor.
Select waypoint data, route data, or track data from the list on the right side. Then select [GPS] - [Upload to GPS] - [Selected Data].
It is also possible to select waypoint, track, or route on the map and click the right mouse button. Then select upload.

Changing names are possible by clicking the item.
Multiple selection with [Ctrl] key and changing the names at the same time by [Auto Rename] are also possible.

[Check Name] gathers points at the same position and allows to give a single name. The old names are replaced with the first name in the waypoints.

After these procedures push the [Upload] button to start uploading.
A dialog for communication setting will come up. Please select the COM port and select [Start] for uploading.

(d) Error

The newest model could cause error. If an error message comes up, please try to select a similar model of your GPS.

(Attention)
Following GARMIN's GPS receivers are not supported.
GPS55, GPS55AV, GPS150, GPS155, GNC300, GNC250, GPS150XL, GNC300XL
